The moderators on these forums have in the past not been picky about topics, discussions, flame-wars and whatnot. Most things have been left untouched. They do however have the power to act as seen here: READ ME FIRST: Welcome to The Circus! and Moderation info and rules.

This poll will run for 14 days.

I would say yes BUT Smile

I'm more than ok that moderators remove things that should not be put on the forums. Nevertheless it needs to be communicated to the "posters" with reasons. For example, flame wars between two members should be removed, the two members informed that their post has been removed and asked to solve this between them.

Nevertheless it raises a lot of questions. When can you can't you remove a post. Imho I would say that any post attacking someone on personnal level should be removed.

Another problem is time... I can't imagine moderators being logged all the time. We might end up with one flame being removed while the other stays for one day... Best is probably to just kill the subject, removing all replies with it too.

Dunno... Hard one in fact!

The easiest aproach is imho to use the lock option to start with. Deletion should only rarely be used. When and if to delete things, I would personally leave to the moderators in question to decide.

At the moment due to some long-ago dispute that I can't remember anymore, our moderators can't actually do anything right now. Only our admins (Gloom, Slin and I) can moderate. Just so you know.

Howdy all,

imho a forum is to share thoughts and info.
personal isues should allways be solved personaly.

to start a discussion on how to play this game is allways good.
even if you have to correct a char. (as long as it is the char that is corrected, not the person behind it)

so, i think a moderator may moderate.

Ah true, I forgot about that. Never the less, the question is whether there should be active moderatoration (by whom ever) on the site or not.

If we chose to have moderators, they should have these rights indeed.
And even more...
They should hang ppl who makes personal attack and slice them in pieces to cook them for next RL meetings.
ONLY if moderators are good cooks ofc.

The moderation is only part of it though Henrik...there also has to be a mechanism to avoid abuse via PMs.

These often tend to be the Clown weapon of choice.

The site software can prevent a user from sending/receiving PMs, but as usual we have a problem defining exactly what circumstances involve invoking that. Private messages really are private, even admins can't read them, and thus we can't really know the full story. Unfortunately I don't know of any way of giving people the ability to "ignore" certain other people themselves.

The alternative is to disable the whole PM system.

How much work would there be to have the following usergroups?
- admins
- moderators
- clownhall members (every registered user)
- game specific (everyone has to be added upon request by the gm is one is present)

When someone leaves its up to the gm to ask admins to remove people from the specific usergroup. Much initial work perhaps, but in the long run it would be rather managable. Dont you think Ade?

I think that it would be much more smooth, if it was possible for the councilmembers to do this themselves. It's not very often(except for now) that you see an admin on the forum and it losses it's effect if it takes 14 days to add or remove a new or former player.

We can have it this way, sure.

Each usergroup on the website can have one moderator with the power to add/remove users. The forum software stops you having more unfortunately, although admins can also add/remove users. Users can request membership for the groups they want to be in - the site handles all of that.

I'm willing to go with this, so by default clowns and students see the general forums and the archived forums from old games, but need to be added to a group for each specific game forum.

I'd also like to appoint a new administrator of the website if possible, to help do these usergroups. Any suggestions for suitable candidates, please PM me - you don't need any particular technical knowledge (Slin and I are around for that) but you *do* need to be very trustworthy as you can see all of the forums as an admin.

It's relatively easy to do. The Exa website has game specific forums that can only be seen by those people who play the game (Rugrats: WoW in this case), whereas there are other areas for Officers, Council, Members etc.

It makes it far more tidy. With Clown, it will be slightly harder as there are still Clowns around who don't play WoW, and the recent occurrence was sort of WoW, and sort of not.

It would be worthwhile giving it a shot and see what happens subsequently.
