Hi everyone,

As I'm sure you've noticed we occasionally get slow performance out of the site, with some queries taking a long time resulting in slow page loads. This seems to be pretty random and as of yet I have no idea what's causing it.

Therefore I propose that next week I will switch off some of the side modules to confirm that they're not causing the problems. This will only be a temporary measure until I can confirm which (if any) are causing problems, but will result in limited access to the following modules:

Shoutblock
CLOWNish Words
Latest Posts
Latest Topics
Who/Where
CLOWNish Pic

The calendar, quotes, forums and pics sections will all still be available through the main menu.

During testing I'd like people to watch the site's performance for them and see if they notice any improvement or not.

If it isn't that, there may be some downtime while I switch to a different database server. Unfortunately as I have a managed host, I don't control the database myself.

Will you pls look into why posts dissepear?

I'm going to revise the permissions on each forum shortly so less people can delete stuff. I suspect it's set incorrectly.

I've had more messages not appear too. Twice that I can remember I was using Firefox, more than likely I was the other times too.
This is annoying when it's a post in a discussion, but when it happens on sign-up threads it could cause real problems.

I'm going to have to go through the forum permissions again when I'm feeling less tired. Probably Monday lunchtime or Tuesday.

Have disabled the shoutblock temporarily as I am suspicious it's that.

I read somewhere that the shoutblock had some badly-designed SQL queries that killed performance, so I'll investigate further. I will probably get someone to clean up my SQL (used in the latest posts/topics bit) too while I'm at it

Slightly updated shoutblock installed. This one needs some tweaking as it's got a problem (_SSHOUTHISTORY anyone??)

I may have to rebuild the shout database, which will mean losing existing shouts. Anyone have a prob with that? If not I'll do it tonight.

Oh it's the calendar's turn to be disabled today.

Have disabled the Latest Posts module to see how much of an impact on performance that has.

site is quite slow for me today for some reason
