Site Performance (yeah, again)

Really awful today, and I think the server actually went down briefly.

I will try to switch to *yet another* database server in the vague hope this will help fix our problems, so if the site says it's down for maintainence then you know why Wink

Go Adenas go. I had several internal database errors trying to post the manifest earlier..

I attempted to switch database last night but some of the queries were a bit large and so timed out when I was running them on the new server. I will try again next week.

I'm seriously considering switching webhosts to maybe a Virtual Private Server or dedicated server but that will depend.

This site is getting slower every day.. takes minutes just to view a thread sometimes Sad

Might be worth looking for a better host if that's the case, no amount of messing around with db's and options will fix a bad webhost Wink

Affie is the hosting for the old site still paid up? I know ppl were sending cash before for that - is that an option?

I found the old site very slow too, and can't even FTP into it at the moment (I tried the other day to change the redirection page a bit).

I was thinking of getting a VPS as an intermediate step as they're not too much more expensive than what I'm paying now, but it is a lot of hassle and I've never managed a server before so it will be a steep learning curve for me. Ideally I'd set up a new account and only migrate stuff when I'm ready but that's more expensive obviously. I might go halves with my brother as an always-on server with root access would be useful to both of us.

That's a point - as I said people were sending Affie money (always a bad idea) for the hosting. Is that something we should be setting up for you too?

I'm looking at getting a Windows VPS host in addition to my current one, and then once I'm settled I'll cancel my current account and transfer the domains across to the new one. It won't be that simple so things might get worse before they get better - but I'll make sure CLOWN are the first to be migrated once I've sorted this out.
